Project Studio - Basic Gear - Security

Wheresville Sound Studio has a hybrid selection of classic analog gear (recording & outboard) that can be used in conjunction with Pro-Tools w/Apple Computer to have the best of both worlds (analog sound with digital editing capabilities). Of course all analog & all digital projects are on the menu as well. Below is a partial list of gear: Apple computer M-Powered ProTools 7.4 with M-Audio Project Mix 18X14 1/0 control surface- Mackie SDR 24/96 - 24 Track hard disc recorder 16 Track open reel analog - Tascam MSR16 16 Tracks of ADAT Tascam DA 38 Tascam M-3500 Mixer 32X8X2 (64 inputs at mixdown) Tascam M-1600 Mixer 16X8X2 Multiple racks of outboard gear *Wheresville Sound has a newly installed "state of the art" Surveillance system that includes multiple weatherproof infrared cameras with night vision that are monitored and record to a remote location 24 hrs a day. Another layer of security consists of CPI coded alarm systems with multiple door sensors and motion sensors that are acvtivated anytime there is no staff in the studio. Being a musician myself, I know the anxiety that leaving valuble instruments & gear at a studio during a project can cause. Wheresville strives to put the artist in as relaxed a setting as possible so the ONLY thing you have to think about is creating the best project possible! The last thing you need to think about when going back to the hotel to catch some sleep is if your 58 Les Paul is safe.

Recording Studio Tips

We want your recording session to run smoothly and to keep your studio costs at a minimum, so here are some important tips: BEFORE YOUR RECORDING SESSION -- PREPRODUCTION 1. Know your songs. Practice, practice, practice before coming to your recording session. Having to practice your material or to work out parts of a song wastes valuable time and money. 2. Make sure that your instruments are ready to go. Don't waste valuable recording time fixing your equipment, changing strings or WRITING SONGS! 3. Organize whatever instruments, accessories, sheet music, etc., that you will be bringing to your recording session so that you can unpack and setup quickly and easily. Restring guitars 2-3 days before session and PLAY (while rehearsing) so they are "stretched" by the time of the session. 4. Pack extras of any items that you may need to replace just in case something goes wrong. This may include guitar strings, cables, reeds, batteries, LYRIC SHEETS, etc. 5. Be rested. If you are tired, then your performance will suffer. Drinking & substances ALWAYS hinder a performance - LEAVE them at home. AT YOUR RECORDING SESSION -- FOCUS 1. Arrive at the studio on-time. Being late cuts into your valuable studio time, it wastes the time of others, and it causes people to rush, and rushing will negatively impact everyone's performance. 2. Please do not bring family, friends and fans with you (unless they are the performers). Visitors can be a significant and unnecessary distraction. 3. Perform what you practiced. Changing direction during your recording session will cause confusion and loss of focus, and it will result in time wasted. 4. Relax and focus on your performance. AFTER YOUR SESSION IS OVER -- PATIENCE 1. Pack your instruments, etc., being cautious of studio equipment setup around you. 2. Give studio personnel the appropriate amount of time to complete their tasks. Editing, sequencing and mastering of your final performances takes time and focus to be done correctly; this is to your benefit. 3. Make arrangements for picking up your master CD and any other recorded materials that you will be receiving as part of your recording agreement. 4. Leave the session engineer one of your favorite guitars as a tip...(just seeing if you are paying attention :-)
